Nutrition in body building is very important for anyone serious about the sport. Good nutrition is essential for a healthy life, but it is most important for a body builder to have effective workouts and grow muscles quickly and efficiently. What type of nutrition should you have to become successful in your body building quest?

You need to first have a diet that is high in protein. That means eating a lot of chicken, fish, and meat. Chicken and fish are best for you because of their low fat content. Although fats are important in body building nutrition, you still must be careful that your fat consumption doesn’t contribute to health problems.

Another big part of healthy body building nutrition intake is to be sure that you consume lots of carbohydrates. Carbs are very important because they provide the primary energy source for our body from the foods we eat. You will need lots of energy to complete an intense workout which will build your muscles quicker and more efficiently.

Complex carbohydrates are the best carbs to take in. These can be found in foods such as whole grain rice, whole grain breads, and pasta. Be sure to take your carbohydrates with protein for maximum efficiency.

Fats are also very important in body building nutrition. Believe it or not, fats actually do good in our bodies providing insulation for body parts like the heart and lungs as well as making energy when the fats break down. Of course, you will want to consume the good fats as opposed to the bad ones so that you don’t gain weight through fat intake.

Saturated fats are the worst fats to take in. These are fats like animal lard and butter. Saturated fats are those that stay solid at room temperature. Unsaturated fats are the “good fats”, but they also should be consumed in moderation. Olive oil and flaxseed oil are good unsaturated fats. They stay liquid when at room temperature.

A very important fat group that can help both your body and mind are Omega 3 fatty acids that are found in fish. Omega 3 fatty acids are known to combat depression, fend off fatigue, and give you energy you need to workout.

You should also include a lot of fresh vegetables in your diet. Foods such as broccoli, cauliflower, and carrots give you many vitamins and minerals that are necessary for a healthy body. Fruit should be consumed in moderation as they naturally contain a certain amount of sugar naturally. Too much sugar can hinder your progress.

In the sport of body building, nutrition is just as important as lifting weights and exercising. Getting good nutrition is essential for an effective body building routine. Eat what’s good for you and what your body needs without over-indulging too much. Then sit back and watch your body grow!

Today, more and more people are becoming conscious of their figure. But because they are so busy running their lives and their businesses, they don’t have the time for workouts. Although local gym membership is very accessible and provides all the needed equipment for workouts, still conflicts arise. It can include adjusting to the gym’s opening times, stress of traveling from your home to the gym, and pressure on the weather condition.

In case you are facing this difficulty, consider building your own home gym to achieve your fitness goals and keep you in shape. There are various ranges of exercise equipment you can utilize at home. Time and weather condition is not a problem anymore. You can do your exercises within your own set schedule. But the question is what equipments are you going to buy?

If you are starting out your venture, or becoming active again after a long break, it is advisable not to pursue your home gym. Instead you must enroll at a local gym within a short period of time. It can help you check out a number of fitness equipments available in the market today. You can ask your fitness instructor about its advantages and disadvantages and how these equipments can meet your fitness needs. Therefore, you can list down the equipments that you might purchase for your home gym.

If weight training is your main focus, then the first step is to purchase a set of weights. You can buy free weights which are less expensive. The prices can be as low as 50 dollars or lower. But you need a combination of weights weighing 4.5 kg (10lb) and 9kg (20lb) which is a hand-held dumbbell with a bar. The end of this bar is replaceable with other weights for more flexibility. There are different types of bars. But it is up to you to choose whether you are going to use the plastic or metal weights. Metal weights are the traditional weights used even before, but plastic weights are more modern and often are sand-filled weights.

You can consider weight machines if you want to workout specific groups of muscles including the biceps, deltoids, and quadriceps in a safer way. More over, free weights cannot provide good workouts for hamstrings and calves muscle groups. However, you need to pay the price of a weight machine. Costs and configurations may widely vary from a simple resistance machine, to an adjustable, multi-stationed weight stack. You can spend hundreds or thousands of dollars.

A stair stepper is another popular alternative. A simple stair stepper model can offer you a better cardiovascular workout and low impacts on your joints when exercising to build your calves and thighs. This machine is also a space saver and can cost from 80 to 150 dollars. A more complex stair stepper has adjustable speed, resistance level, speed, pedal distances and more. It also includes an HRM (heart rate monitor) as well as digital readouts for distance climbed, calories burnt, and speed. It can cost 1,700 to 2,000 dollars. Treadmills are good workouts machines too for your home gym. The prices depend on the types, models, brand, and features.

Building your home gym can cost you money. However, it is worth investing for to meet your fitness needs.

Maintaining an active lifestyle is important for your health and overall vitality – yet how do you know if you are getting as much exercise as you need?

Fortunately, there are organizations that have created activity guidelines to help anyone feel more confident about their physical activity levels.

These important questions will help guide you in choosing healthy exercise plans for you and your family.

  1. How many hours of exercise should you engage in each week? The average person should engage in a minimum of 2-3 hours of exercise per week.
  2. What is the best style of exercise for burning the most calories per hour?
    • The best form of exercise for burning the most calories will come through resistance weight training.

This is because resistance training causes stress throughout the muscle and takes several hours to heal – which requires a constant supply of nutrients and more calories being burned.

  3. How often should you stand up and walk during work?
    • Whenever you’re sitting at work, it’s most beneficial to stand every hour to lengthen the muscles and assist in better blood flow. Sitting for too long or being sedentary in any sense can be harmful to your health.

  4. How many minutes of physical activity should a toddler (aged 1-2) engage in each day?
    • Toddlers should be engaged in about 180 minutes of total exercise each day. This exercise can be split up throughout several activities but should accumulate to about 3 hours each day.
  5. Guidelines for children 5-11 require how many minutes of resistance exercise each day and why?
    • Those aged 5-11 should engage in 3 sessions per week that involve the strengthening of muscles and bones. This will help to lengthen muscles and mobilize joints to allow for the best possible growth.
  6. What is the minimum amount of time for exercise to be considered “involved exercise” in older exercisers (18-64) and why?
    • 10 minutes. It takes about 10 minutes for the body’s natural state of homeostasis to change enough to have a beneficial effect on soft tissue and your central nervous system.

Following these guidelines will help keep you healthy and fit. Build activity into each day and enjoy the many rewards of your active lifestyle!

Who says you need a gym to get in great shape? The prevalence of gyms is a relatively recent phenomenon. There have always been people in great shape, with or without a gym membership. You can avoid the fees, travel time, and other inconveniences and get in shape without leaving your home or neighborhood.

You don’t need a lot of equipment or time to dramatically change your body and fitness level. Even if you’re not thriving financially, you can still build a body you can be proud of. Your doctor will be thrilled, too.

Use these strategies to get in the best shape of your life without stepping into a gym:

  1. Calisthenics. Your body weight is all the resistance you need to get in great shape. Remember gym class back in the day? You would do push-ups, sit-ups, squats, and other calisthenics. There are plenty of exercise examples online. Set up a simple program and try to do just a little more each week. You can make great progress if you’re consistent. A few hundred pushups each day will do wonders for your upper body without needing a gym membership.
  1. Jump rope. A jump rope is inexpensive and a great form of exercise. You can get your calves, heart, and lungs in amazing shape. Take it easy at first until you get back in the swing of things. Jumping rope is great for your coordination, too. Jump rope with a friend for double the fun.
  2. Run, walk, bike. Running and walking are free. If you already have a bike, biking is free, too. These can be great cardiovascular exercises which enhance your health in numerous ways.
  3. Exercise videos. Cable TV and internet have countless exercise programs you can watch and join in the fun. Whether you like aerobics, bootcamp style workouts, or Pilates, there are endless options for learning and following along. Most of the options are 100% free, too.
  4. Yoga. Yoga is another option you can do in the comfort of your home or at the park. Again, there are many videos available on the topic. A morning routine of following along with a yoga program on TV can change your life.
  5. Find and follow a diet that works for you. Exercise is only part of the answer to getting in great shape. Your diet plays a huge part, too. It can be challenging to find an eating plan that you enjoy that is also healthy. Keep working on it until you find something that clicks.
    1. You simply can’t out-exercise a poor diet unless you’re a 20-year-old wide receiver.
  1. Hike. Hiking can be more challenging than walking. You can also spend some time in nature, too. Hiking can also be a great group activity if you don’t feel like getting in shape alone. All you need is some suitable footwear for the terrain.
  2. Drink water. Water is another important component of getting into good shape. Your body is predominantly water, and your cells need water to work properly. Calorie-free and healthy aren’t necessarily the same thing. There’s more and more evidence that artificial sweeteners contribute to overeating and type 2 diabetes. Your gut flora is also negatively impacted by artificial sweeteners. So, stick with water!

Gyms can be expensive and inconvenient. Avoid both of these disadvantages by working out at home. A few calisthenics and a quick run are all anyone needs. This is the basic method the military uses to whip recruits into shape quickly. If it can work for the army, it can work for you, too!

Get your diet under control, too, and you’ll be amazed by your progress.

Why is it that some people find it so easy to exercise and eat a healthy diet while so many others struggle? One of the reasons is a difference in mindset.

If you view yourself as someone that can’t follow a diet, you’ll find it very challenging to eat well. Do you see yourself as a person that doesn’t go to the gym? If so, you probably won’t be able to find your way to the gym with any regularity.

Someone that eats well doesn’t view food, or himself, in the same way an unhealthy, overweight person views those things.

With the appropriate mindset, you can do anything!

These habits will help turn you into someone who’s naturally fit and healthy:

  1. Make healthy choices and recognize them as such. The best way to think of yourself as someone that makes healthy choices is to make them regularly.

    • Whenever you make a healthy choice, notice it and announce to yourself, “I’m the kind of person that chooses healthy food over unhealthy food.” Or, “I’m one of those people that goes to the gym even if it’s raining.”

    • When you view health and fitness as part of your identity, the behaviors that support that belief occur naturally.

  2. Consider how each decision impacts your health and fitness. Most people never consider the impact a decision has on their health. They choose food based on what they happen to feel like eating at that moment. Or, they search for a parking spot as close to the door of the store as possible out of convenience.

    • When faced with options, ask yourself, “Which option best supports my health and fitness?”.  When you begin asking this question, you’ll begin the process of changing your mindset.

  3. Do your grocery shopping the way a healthy person would. Before you head for the grocery store, make a list of everything you want to buy. Review that list and ensure that you’re making healthy choices. Remove any items that aren’t healthy and replace them with healthier options.

    • Stick to your list. The only reason to stray from your list is if you remember something that you need. Avoid the temptation to pick up anything that fails to support your health.

  1. Make time for exercise. Avoid the mindset of, “I’ll exercise today if I have time.” Make time in your regular schedule for exercise. Plan out your week and decide when and where you’re going to work out. You can certainly arrange for 30 minutes of exercise a few times each week.

  2. Use affirmations. Write five affirmations that affirm your commitment to health and spend a few minutes each day reciting them. Here are a few examples:

    • I consider the impact every decision I make has on my health.
    • I make my health a priority.
    • I find it easy to stick to a healthy diet.
    • I love to exercise and keep my body fit and healthy.
    • My mind and body want to be healthy.

Possessing a mindset that supports your goals is a critical part of becoming a healthier person. We consistently live up to our expectations and beliefs about ourselves. If you believe you’re one of those people that eats poorly and can’t stick to an exercise routine, any effort to change this reality will be a tremendous struggle.

If you can develop the mindset of a healthy and fit person, you’ll become healthier and fitter. You couldn’t stop yourself from making progress even if you tried. Change your mindset and your life will change, too.
